Choosing the Right OLED TV for Your Living Room

Size, brightness, gaming features and room lighting — a practical guide to picking an OLED you'll love for years.

OLED panels deliver perfect blacks and per-pixel contrast, which is why they remain the benchmark for cinematic viewing. But not every OLED suits every living room — the right pick depends on your seating distance, ambient light, and how you mostly use the TV.

Start with size. As a rule of thumb, multiply your seating distance (in metres) by 35 to get a comfortable diagonal in inches. A 3-metre couch pairs beautifully with a 65" panel, while a 4-metre living room can step up to 77".

Next, consider brightness. Newer MLA and QD-OLED panels push well past 1,500 nits peak — a big upgrade for bright rooms. For dim home-cinema spaces, last-year's models often offer the same dark-room performance for hundreds less.

Gamers should look for HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz, VRR and ALLM. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X both benefit, and Dolby Vision gaming is now common across LG and Panasonic ranges.

Finally, plan for sound. Even the best OLED needs a soundbar — budget at least 15% of the TV's price for audio. Our team can demo matching combinations in-store.
